about

Steven wrote this track as a tribute to his mother, who suffered terribly going through treatment for a serious illness. The lyrics are all about the corruption in the pharmaceutical industry, and how often, in capitalist societies, a patient's health and recovery is not the major consideration of the organisations that make and administer 'treatments'.

lyrics

Why must your motives be bound by the greed of the 21st century
Lurking in the shadows of your every activity
When you hold the scalpel I'm afraid of your motives
Am I just another target you must meet to boost your budget?

One percent here, and one percent there
It's gradually increasing not decreasing the fear
Statistics the disguise of society's demise
Figures on the gravestones at the end of our lives

Doctor, doctor, doctor, I'm trying to save a life
Oh, won't you please help me save a precious life?
Oh good doctor doctor, I'm trying to save a life
Oh, won't you please help me save a precious life?
I can't swallow this pill, it tastes of bitter deception

I feel the growing pain fed by the hand of the corporate monstrosity
Grinning in the dark, it gambles our lives away
Holding a cure so close but just out of reach
And licking up the profit in the stench and the reek

One victim more, another coin in your claws
The monster grows in size, it devours the law
It swallows you up when you first open your eyes
And the figure carves a gravestone waiting for you to die

Doctor, doctor, doctor, I'm trying to save a life
Oh, won't you please help me save a previous life?
Oh good doctor doctor, I'm trying to save a life
Oh, won't you please help me save a precious life?
I can't swallow this pill, it tastes of bitter deception

[instrumental break]

Doctor, doctor, doctor, I'm trying to save a life
Oh, won't you please help me save a previous life?
Oh good doctor doctor, I'm trying to save a life
Oh, won't you please help me save a precious life?
I can't swallow this pill, it tastes of bitter deception
